How can I keep my food warm now that I eat so slow?

You can warm up your plate in the oven or use a warming plate. The warm plates will keep your food warm for a longer period.

After your weight loss surgery, your stomach is much less able to break down food so that the nutrients can be extracted from it. It is therefore important to chew your food very well so that it is almost liquid when you swallow it. This will help your stomach!

Chewing so well does mean that it takes you much longer to eat a meal than you are used to. You may even spend so long eating that your last few bites have already gone cold! Fortunately, there are a few things you can do.

1. Cover your food
You can cover your food with a lid or a piece of aluminum foil. This way, your food cools down less quickly and therefore stays warm a little longer.

2. Keep a portion in the pan
You can leave part of your portion of food in the pan. After all, the pan is nice and warm, so the food in the pan will cool less quickly.

3. Heat your plate in the oven or microwave
You can place your plate in the microwave or oven to warm it up. If the plate itself is warm, the food on your plate will also cool down less quickly.

Just don't forget to check whether your plate is oven-proof and to use oven gloves when you grab your warm plate.

4. Use a warming plate
Warming plates have a reservoir at the bottom into which you can pour warm water. That warm water then heats the plate itself. This way, the food on your plate stays warm for a long time.
